About the CSB Lab

The CSB Lab conducts largely quantitative, theory-driven research on how social, cultural, and political processes shape attitudes and behavior. Interns become active members of the research team and contribute meaningfully to ongoing projects.

What You Will Do

As a research intern, you will work closely with faculty and lab members and contribute across multiple stages of the research process:

  • Research Synthesis: Literature reviews and meta-analytic coding
  • Study Development: Designing online studies, preparing stimuli, and translating materials
  • Data Collection: Recruiting participants online and offline
  • Data Analysis: Cleaning datasets, running statistical analyses, and creating visualizations
  • Lab & Project Support: Assisting with meetings, coordination, and online platforms
  • Science Communication: Writing summaries or supporting media outreach

This broad involvement provides excellent preparation for graduate study or research careers.

Work Environment

  • Collaborative & Immersive: Interns participate in weekly meetings and work in small teams with clear goals and timelines.
  • Office Space: While dedicated desks cannot be guaranteed, interns are normally placed in shared offices near the rest of the lab to foster collaboration and integration.

Funding & Practicalities

  • Self-Funded Internship: No salary is provided; applicants should be aware that Oslo has a relatively high cost of living.
  • Erasmus+: UiO is part of the Erasmus+ program, and we are happy to support eligible applicants. We have extensive experience hosting Erasmus+ interns.

Who Should Apply?

We seek motivated, reliable, and intellectually curious students who thrive both independently and in teams.

Academic Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s level
  • Preferably Psychology (Social, Cultural, Political, Personality) or a related discipline

Skills & Profile

  • Strong interest in quantitative research and statistics, including prior experience with statistical methods (courses, thesis, or projects)
  • English proficiency at C1 level or higher
  • High motivation and enthusiasm for academic research

Dates & Availability

Internships are semester-based (minimum 3 months):

  • Spring: January – June
  • Fall: September – December
  • No summer internships (June–July)
